Laramie Art Quilters - July 16, 2022
In
attendance: Mary C,
Mary K, Brett, Ronda, Ronda, Debbie, Maureen, Judy, Carmen, Barbara
Before the
meeting began, Mary C and Brett presented Mary K with two gift certificates in
thanks for all her work on behalf of LAQ,
Thanks, Mary!
1. Nancy Prince class.
Mary C offered for alternate dates for the class (all Sat-Sun):
September 10-11, September 17-18, October 1-2 and October 22-23. From the discussion it looked like the
October dates would work better, at least for those in attendance. Mary C will send an email to those who had
expressed an interest in the class to set a firm date. There are two classes -- thread painting and
thread sketching; LAQ members can attend one or both.
2. Dye Days. The dates are August 18 (set-up), 19 and 20 at Dolly’s
house. Dolly and Mary K inventoried the
LAQ stock and Mary K will send an email with the inventory, asking for Dharma
orders to be submitted to her by July 25.
She will also ask for RSVPs for Dye Days so we will know how many people
to set up for. LAQ has plenty of 400 and
401 fabric, as well as broadcloth from Deb Donnell for members to
purchase.
Potentially,
Dye Days may have to be moved to another location due to water issues at
Dolly’s house; Debbie offered a space at her house if needed. We set a deadline of August to set the venue.
3.
Showing Our Work. We should think about opportunities for
displaying our work in public. The Art
Fest at Ivinson was a success, so we should plan on that for next year. Barbara will check on the new gallery on
south Second Street. Perhaps we can
participate in the Pop-Up Art Walk this year at the Women’s History House. Carmen suggested contacting Camellia at Clay,
Paper, Scissors in Cheyenne about an LAQ show there.
4. Hospice Work Days.
We discussed scheduling hospice work days in late October or early
November. The consensus was that doing
hospice work at home and meeting by zoom was preferable to setting up in a
venue. But we also agreed that
scheduling a pinning day in person afterwards would be ideal. Mary K brought two hospice quilts for
hand-binding.
5. LAQ Future. Mary C plans to
hand over leadership of LAQ at the end of this calendar year. Ideally, the new leadership should take the
form of a team. At our planning meeting
in September, let’s be prepared to talk about what we value about LAQ and where
we want to take it.
6. Show and Tell.
Mary K showed a hand-dyed backing for a quilt she is making for a
friend. Maureen showed three stunning quilts she had made using “boring” hand
dyes. Ronda, Carmen and Mary C also
showed hand dyes from previous Dye Days.
The demo
this month was from Mary C who showed us how to use tsukeniko inks.
