February 2023 meetig notes from Debbie Gorski

 LAQ Meeting-February 18/2023

Attendees: Barbara, Rhonda, Mary K., Brett, Judy, Carmen, Sarah Lee, Brett, Debbie, Maureen, Wend (Fiber Guild).

We did a round of introductions for our new member Sarah Lee. Everybody discussed how they were introduced to quilting.

  • Hospice quilt was delivered for their fundraiser

  • Bethel Anthony’s demo will be at the Women’s History House on March 5 @ 7:00 PM. (Fiber Guild and LAQ will share the cost of the room.

  • March 18 LAQ meeting will be at the Extension bldg. on the fairgrounds.

The Art Quilt Show is scheduled for the last weekend in August-Friday-25th, Saturday-26th, and Sunday-27th at the SOK Gallery on Second Street. Discussion about needing volunteers to help with various duties, specifically, marketing/sharing the event with the public. Also discussed working with a graphic artist to design a flyer. It was mentioned that photos of art quilts would be nice to have on the flyer. Photos of art quilts finished before May can be used for the flyers. Mary K. has the equipment to take professional photos. Quilt size for the show can be 4 feet by 8 feet or smaller. Not enough room for larger quilts.

Instead of a demo, three members brought projects they are working on for suggestions on design elements. Rhonda showed two projects, Barbara showed a wall hanging, and Brett shared three art quilts. Great discussions of ideas and feedback were given to all three members. This exercise of providing feedback is meant to assist members as they work on projects for the Art Show in August.

Show and Tell: Mary K. showed three quilt tops; the fabric was provided by Ann Olson and the tops were sewn by Janie Van Oss. Tops need to be quilted if anyone would like to tackle that project. Mary K. can quilt them later in the Spring. Brett shared four crocheted and felted vessels she made. Mary K. shared a project “she has been working on for twenty years” as she says and emphasizing completing projects as is the theme LAQ has adopted for 2023!

A big Thank You to Rhonda for providing fruit, delicious tea bread, and coffee!
